Remnants of a Baltimore tornado?

Remnants of a Baltimore tornado?

Originally uploaded by spam991

Earlier this evening, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for the city of Baltimore and much of the surrounding area. (A tornado warning means that a funnel cloud has been spotted or that local radar has picked up some sort of rotation in the atmosphere.) The warning expired without major incident at 5:30 pm.

A few minutes later, at 5:53 pm, I was on Pulaski Highway in the Rossville area of Baltimore, and spotted this curious-looking cloud to the southwest. It looked to me like a broken-off celery stalk.

Could this have been the remnants of a tornado that didn’t touch down?  Probably not, but it’s still a crazy-lookin’ cloud on a crazy weather day.

SPAM®, Bacon, Egg & Cheese Sandwich at Which Wich

16 Jul

I decided to get a little adventurous (and some might say carnivorous) for breakfast, and had this sandwich at Which Wich? At Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

It wasn’t exactly a delight of Hawaiian proportions, but it wasn’t bad. Thanks to the bacon, egg, and cheese, the power of the SPAM® was properly reigned in.

Just in time for the start of my diet!

Spotted this at the Walmart in Bowie, Maryland.

Nevermind, THIS Is Our Ride for the Week

Before we even got out of the rental car area, we realized the Hyundai’s cigarette lighters weren’t working. Considering all the stuff we’ll have plugged in (two phones and an MP3 player, at least), that wasn’t going to work.

So now it’s a blue 2010 Chevy Aveo. What shall we call this baby?

Say hello to this silver 2009 Hyundai Accent. What shall we name it?

Trading Crab Cakes for Carolina Sunshine

4 Jul

This morning, Anna and I are departing Charm City and spending a week in North Carolina. This will be my first time visiting any part of the U.S. coastline between Assateague, Maryland and West Palm Beach, Florida.

Every other year, Anna’s extended family gathers for a week in Ocean Isle Beach, and this will be my first time as a part of that gang. We’ll be there from Monday evening through Saturday morning.

On our way down there, we’re staying for Raleigh for a day to hang out with Linda, one of the very best friends I’ve ever had, as she and her man throw us a big 4th of July BBQ party. I think I can already feel my body making room for a ton of grilled meat.

Thanks to a combination of procrastination and a-little-too-loose planning, I’m embarking on this journey with almost no sleep, but the sunshine, the excitement of the trip, and my fabulous girlfriend should help me push through until I get a chance to squeeze in a nap in Raleigh.

I’ll do my best to document the highlights of the trip here om the blog and on my Twitter feed. (If you’re reading this on Facebook, you’ll be better served by checking out the original posts on the actual blog site.)
